I am so so excited for this Friday (November 8th) because its TEXT release day!! Yay!!
So in honor of the upcoming release I am going to be posting a post today and another post tomorrow that have to do with TEXT.
Today’s post is a little peak into the setting of TEXT. I’ve been pretty vocal about this book and how special it is to me. One of the reasons I think I identify with it so much is because the setting is in Slatington, PA. I lived in Slatington last year. It was my inspiration behind this book.
It is such a stunning place. I love being back in North Carolina but I still think about the landscapes there and I miss all the trees, mountains and the trail that we lived on.
In the book Honor lives on the trail as well, in fact I used our old house as inspiration for Honor’s house.
Of course while we lived in Slatington I took a lot of pictures because it was so beautiful so I thought I would share those photos with you today so you could get a very clear vision of the setting of the book.
This is part of the Slatington Trail that Honor talks about in the book. She get’s kidnapped on the trail in TEXT.
You can see that the path literally cuts right through the tree’s and wilderness.
This is a close up of the creek that runs right along with the trail. The county actually stocks it with fish during fishing season and people can fish. Yes, we did fish when we lived there. My son just loved it. We never ate what we caught, we always threw it back in.
There is a large wooden bridge that runs across the creek in this spot. Here I am standing on the bridge and taking a shot.
This is more of the trail. Eventually the gravel path gives way to a paved path. Its maintained and its gorgeous. On this section the creek is running along the left side of the photo. In some places on the right up that hill there are homes.
Another Creek shot.
This is on top one of the mountains nearby. We had driven somewhere (I think the zoo) and we are actually on the road that took us there, we just stopped to take a picture.
This is part of the trail that was very close to my house. The creek is on the right behind the trees.
In TEXT, Nathan talks about driving on some narrow, windy roads that don’t really seem like roads. They go right up the mountain and have steep drops off the side. I didn’t make that up. LOL! This is a picture of one of those roads. On the right it literally plummets down the mountain.
This is the same road… Nathan talks about this as well. See the sign? Is actually says to Travel At Your Own Risk! This was the road that our GPS took us to go to Wal Mart!!! ha ha ha ha. I was like O_o
This was our backyard. This is how I imagines Honor’s back yard as well. I am standing in the sliding glass door on the house and taking this picture. Right on the other side of the fence is the trail.
A little bonus shot… this is the wooden bridge I mentioned above. You can see my kids hanging on the sides and looking down into the water.
A little fun fact: they had this little festival at this bridge and all around it with vendors and food and little tables set up to buy stuff. They also did this thing called a Duck Race. You could purchase a Rubber Ducky (they had pink, yellow, blue) and all the ducks were numbered. (I think the money went to charity…) Well everyone would get a duck and then they would set the ducks up in the creek and everyone gathered along the bridge and on the bridge and then they would let the ducks go and all these colored ducks would rush down the creek (and under the bridge) and they had people standing at the finish line to see who’s duck would win. The winner got a prize.
For weeks after the duck race when we would walk we would find “stray” ducks that had drifted on down the stream and gotten caught in plants and trees. lol.
Okay so that’s a little about Slatington, where TEXT is set and where Honor and Nathan live. 😉 I hope you enjoyed the pictures!!!
Get ready for TEXT to release THIS Friday!!
Love these pics and it is almost exactly how I pictured it when I read it!!
