Tell Me Something Tuesday

Welcome to my weekly meme Tell Me Something Tuesday where I ask you something and you tell me the answer!! It’s as simple as that and I thought it would be a great way for all of us bloggers to get to know one another! So this is how it works: I post a question here on my blog and then i give my answer. I invite all the bloggers to take the question and post it on their blog with their answer and we can hop around and see what everyone says! Is your TBR pile out of control? How do you plan on taming it?

My answer:

Well, I hear this all the time!!  I’ve said it on many occasions and yes, my TBR pile it out of control, but I think that my TBR pile is different from a lot of my other blogging buddies. The reason is that I don’t take review requests anymore. I used too, in fact, I used to write book and movie reviews for JournalStone publishing and they would post them on their website (they have since taken this feature down as their publishing house grows). I also used to take review requests from authors on GoodReads and post to my old blog The Unlocked Diary (I still have that blog but I don’t use it anymore).

When Masquerade came out (my first novel) I found it became harder to write reviews for a few reasons. One being that the demands on my time were increasing. With two kids, a husband a house and book to release I just didn’t have the time to commit to reading and reviewing.But I also found it harder to write reviews because to be truthful I was afraid if I wrote a negative review (and I would never right a mean review) then that author or maybe even a fan of that author would retailiate and write something negative about my book or even me. I became very cautious in reviewing and I realized that it didn’t make me a very good reviewer. So I closed off to reviews. When I closed off to reviews I found that I felt a sense of relief and realized it was because I couls read what I wanted to read again. It meant that my own personal wish list of books could be read. During my time as a reviewer I had spent little time reading what I wanted to read and only reading what I was asked to read. Now that isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy those books because many of them I did, but there were books I wanted to read and couldn’t.

Now that I have been closed off to reviews and am able to read what I want I have to admit that I rarely get the chance anymore. I almost hate to admit it but I haven’t read a thing all summer. I know, that’s crazy! But we moved from NC to PA and then I have been working tirelessly on Tirade, writing Bewitched dealing with marketing, cover design and going from traditional to Indie publishing. Its been a lot and left very little time.

So that’s where my TBR list comes in. There are SO many books out that I want to read. I miss the days I would stroll through BN (coffee in hand) and look at them all and choose one or two to take home. I miss my Nook and reading and I hope to get back to it. I have such a long list that I really need to sit and write them all down. So I guess my list isn’t out of control – for me its more finding (or making) the time to read. 🙂

With that being said, I know many of my blogging and reviewing friends have lists that are insane (can I just take a moment to say I respect the tremendous amount of work you all do with the tours, the blogging and reviewing. Its really hard and very time consuming and you do it all for free but us authors love you). SO, to help you with that TBR control pile my great friend Heidi over at Rainy Day Ramblings has come up with a TBR challenge (she’s participating too!).
