My Review (courtesy of me)
This is the first movie that I went to see after I moved to PA and I had the pleasure of seeing it a drive in theater!! What a fun way to watch a movie. If you haven’t been able to get to a drive in theater I highly recommend you try it out some time. J
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I watched this movie, I figured there would be good music and I had heard quite a bit of buzz about it so I figured I would give it a go. I actually really liked the movie but I will be honest and say I think the reason I liked it was because of the music and not the plot.
The music was hands down my favorite part of this movie. I was born in 1981 and I grew up listening to classics (to me they are classics, LOL) like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Wanted Dead or Alive”. These songs brought back some memories and they are such good rock songs! I thought the cast did a great job singing them.
The cast was star studded for sure. Julianne Hough, Russel Brand, Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones are just to name a few. I am not a huge fan of Catherine Zeta-Jones or Tom Cruise but they both played their roles really well. I like Julianne Hough and thought she did a good job. Russel Brand was his funny self and I laughed in almost every scene he was in. My favorite actor in this movie – strangely – I can’t remember his name…. I know I’m a weirdo. But I can remember his face and that head of hair… (yes, I already admitted I am a weirdo). I guess you could say he was the male lead in this film (some might say that was Tom Cruise – but the movie wasn’t really about him). He has a fantastic singing voice and he has this head of brown curly hair that I just loved. I wanted to weep at the part where he gets it cut off!! GASP!!!! It was the worst part of the movie. I kept thinking “How could you!” LOL….
But I think I am getting distracted from the review. I will move on…
As I mentioned you might suspect that Tom Cruise is the male lead in this film… and to many he probably is. He is certainly the biggest name in the film. He plays the role of a mega rock star who is basically on his way out of fame. He spends his time drunk (I really don’t remember a scene where he is sober – well maybe the last scene in the movie), without a shirt, and basically making out with women. He does get on stage and sing and I have to say I was surprised to learn that Tom Cruise can really sing well. I didn’t really understand the point of his role… it was kind of silly really. I guess it was a lesson in what can happen to rock stars if they don’t have people around them to care???
Anyway, I think that if you go into this movie just for a good time and some great music then you won’t be disappointed. I wasn’t too impressed with the plot though that isn’t to say it wasn’t entertaining because it was. I really think the point of this movie was to pay homage to the fantastic rock songs many of us love.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves music (particularly 80’s rock) and a little romance.
If you do watch it be sure to come here and leave a comment to tell me if you agree that the main male leads (plays Julianne Hough’s love interest) hair is fabulous. J
So there you have it. My opinion.
Here’s the Movie Trailer:
Just for some Monday fun here’s a little music that was covered in the movie:
I hope this is available on Netflix soon so I can get this. I’m not the biggest rock fan but the songs I heard sound really good. Oh and I love Diego’s hair. I remember him from Pretty Little Liars and I miss him.
