Mirror, mirror on the wall… who’s the fairest of them all?
I recently saw this movie at a drive in move theater with my husband. The drive in move theater is a real fun experience and if you haven’t had the chance to go try it! It’s fun!
So I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I watched this movie. Of course, I knew that Snow white would be in it along with the evil queen and I wondered if the seven dwarves would make an appearance. I also expected some romance between the huntsman and snow white.
I have to say the movie wasn’t everything I was expecting but I didn’t think it was a bad movie either. I liked the new take on the fairytale and I thought that some of the twists on the classic fairytale were really good.
I really liked the fantasy elements to the movie… the dark queen and her powers were really kind of cool (evil, though) and I thought the special effects that they used to show her powers were cool. The birds were creepy, lol. And I liked how she could age or look young again in a single moment. So I guess you could say overall I really liked Charlize Theron’s part all together. I thought she did a good job acting evil and beautiful at the same time. She really was breathtaking in some scenes. Definitely the fairest in the land… lol.
I liked the dark forest, the things that lived there and all their powers. I thought the scenery was beautiful and memorable. The dwarves in the movie were fun… I liked them.
The huntsman played by Christ Hemsworth was a good character. He was jaded, hurt and not the knight and shinning armor some of us might have expected but I think that made him real. And of course, he was good looking and strong.
I was surprised at the addition of the Duke’s son… (I think it was the Duke’s son) I hadn’t known there would be another male vying for Snow White’s attention. I wouldn’t really call it a love triangle. In fact there was hardly any romance at all. I think I would have liked to have seen a little more of that but that isn’t really what this movie was about. It was more about the evil queen trying to kill Snow White and keep her power and kingdom.
And then there is Kristin Stewart… Lord help me I keep wanting to type Bella Swan. That girl is always going to be known as Bella so stepping into another role (a fairytale no less) was probably difficult. I have heard lots of people say she can’t act, etc etc. But I think she did a good job in the film. I kept waiting for Bella mannerisms to come out and there might have been one or two but overall she did good portraying a strong woman who could stand on her own two feet. She didn’t really need saved by the huntsman… in fact I think she might have saved him a little.
There were a lot of battle scenes, it really was a war –ish movie. Overall, I think it was a good movie. The setting was good, the actors were good and it was a tight plot.
I would recommend this movie to everyone who likes good fight scenes, some fantasy, an evil plot and a strong female character. It isn’t a romance movie by any means so don’t expect that.
So there you have it. My opinion.
