Welcome to my weekly meme Tell Me Something Tuesday where I ask you something and you tell me the answer!! It’s as simple as that and I thought it would be a great way for all of us bloggers to get to know one another! So this is how it works: I post a question here on my blog and then i give my answer. I invite all the bloggers to take the question and post it on their blog with their answer and we can hop around and see what everyone says! If you are a blogger don’t forget to leave your link at the bottom of this post! If you aren’t a blogger – that’s okay too!! Leave your answer in the comments section!

 Tell Me Something:

How do you feel about love triangles?

My answer:

Ahhhh, the dreaded love triangle. I feel about love triangles the same way I feel about yellow diamonds. I used to love them and look in all the stores at them…. I saw so many I decided that I didn’t want one anymore. Every once in a while one will still catch my eye and I will check it out, maybe even try it on but for the most part I’m over the yellow diamond.

There have been quite a few love triangles that I have enjoyed reading but lately I am finding that when I know a book contains one I am more hesitant to read it. (example – catching fire… i just know its coming…lol)  Why? Because they are exhausting. I always feel like I have run a marathon after reading one. Almost always I get attached to both guys (or the wrong guy) and one of them – and sometimes in the process of the girl choosing – gets hurt. I dread it the whole time I am reading and falling in love with the guys. I almost feel like why do I want to read this, get attached to him and then watch him get hurt?? I mean, in the end the girl has to choose. Unless she’s skanky – in which case I wouldn’t want to read that either…. well, maybe I would, LOL.

The only way a love traingle works out is if the other guy (the dreaded third wheel) gets a new girl and no one gets hurt.

I understand why an author uses a love triangle in writing though because it usually suckers us all in and we choose a guy then we bite our nails and turn the page unil we know which guy is chosen…. so I guess in some ways it works.

I have read some love triangles that I have enjoyed. Example: Unearthly and Hallowed by Cynthia Hand. Still, those books still had me wincing over who was going to get hurt. I also enjoyed the Twilight love triangle but the way it resolved made it easier, don’t you think? I am anxious to see how the triangle in the Hunger Games Trilogy plays out (I’ve only read the first book so far) but I have heard some grumbling that it isn’t good. *sigh*. The love triangle in the Nightshade series was difficult to read even if I did understand the outcome.

And here’s a question for all the bloggers out there…. how come the love triangle is always two guys and a girl? Why can’t there be two girls and a guy? Now that might be interesting. I am sure there are books with that kind of triangle but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Do you think that kind of triangle would be more fun to read because its a little bit fresher?

So that is my answer this week!

Next week’s TMST question is:

If you could go into any book and visit the setting and characters which book would it be and why?

Hope to see you all next week! Happy Tuesday!!

  1. Great TMST! Love triangles are sexist! I want to see a change! LOL! And yes, it’s tiring to read one, especially if you fall for the wrong guy, your heart will be crushed along and you will hate the book, at least that was what I felt ;P

  3. Soulmate by L.J. Smith has something of a love triangle with 2 girls and one guy. We have the good vampire Thierry, the devious original vampire Maya and the human Hannah.

  6. Hi! I agree with you, a love triangle is absolutely tiring ;D But if it’s well written and you fall for the right guy, it’s so good!

    1. Hi Beatriz!! You r right a well done triangle is soooo good. Lol.

    1. Author

Yes, I agree. Sometimes the triangle doesn’t add much to the plot and I could do without it too. But then again sometimes it works. LOL.
      thanks for stopping by!!

  7. Interestng TMST! Though I tend to disagree on your stand for the love triangle, to me they aren’t really dreaded and exhausting. Actually, I’m find it hard to describe what they are to me, because they seem, I dunno, normal I guess.
(Please forgive me if I sound stuck up or like a know-it-all, I don’t mean to. I often it hard to find the right words to get my point across without offendng anyone. If I do offend you, please tell me so I may correct my error, and know that I didn’t mean to.)
For me, I guess why I say that is because I don’t usually pick the wrong guy or if I do, I’ll which sides half way through. Maybe it’s because of my mom. She’s always been very good at finding clues and picking out characteristics. She often know very early on which characters were trustworthy and which to avoid. I like to think I pick up some of that, but I can tell I didn’t learn it all.
Anyway, on your point about two girls and one guys, I think it may have been once or twice, but I couldn’t tell you titles or anything. Maybe they’re afraid of a cat fight, I don’t know.
Well, that’s my insight to love triangles. Thanks for hosting this!

      Hi Clorisa!
Glad to have you here and thank you so much for your thoughtful response! I love to hear from other readers/bloggers what their opinions are so don’t be afriad to share here! (And you don’t sound stuck up at all!! lol)

A cat fight? LOL that might be some good reads right there. LOL.

But, I think thats awesome you don’t usually pick the wrong guy you must be fabulous at picking up those clues and characteristics, I wish I had more of that cause I ALWAYS pick the wrong one. LOL!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and joining in TMST, maybe we will see you next week as well!!

      1. I don’t? whew! *whipes sweat from forehead* That a relief!
Anyway, I guess you’re right a cat fight might be more fun! LOL
Thanks again! I’ll defiently be stopping by tomorrow! See you then!! 🙂
