Stories That Touch The Heart
When I first came up with the concept of Betwixt, I figured it would be a sweet story about a girl caught between life and death and the boy that was trying to rescue her. I was basically writing it because I saw a similar premise in a movie and I was disappointed with the ending. I decided to adapt it so that I’d come away feeling satisfied. I wasn’t even sure I’d publish it.
As I worked on the project, the story evolved into so much more. It became a story about a broken girl. A girl who couldn’t face up to a tragedy in her past and needed a life or death moment to wake her up to the destructive nature of her life. It became a story about redemption and forgiveness, a story about taking a damaged life and turning it around.
As I was crying my way through the project, being moved by this character’s plight, I decided this story had to be shared and I would definitely publish it. The story was pulling on heartstrings I didn’t even know I had. Although there were tears and it was emotionally draining, I loved every second of the project. To think I would then put it online and make money from it was an even bigger bonus. It made me want to give a little something back.
I decided that I wanted to donate a $1 from every sale of Betwixt to a charity. I wanted it to link to the book somehow, so I tried to find a charity that worked with healing brokeness and restoring hope to lives that have been torn apart by tragedy. I did some hunting and stumbled across Love146. This charity works with the prevention of child trafficking and exploitation. They also work with rehabilitating the children who manage to get free from this atrocious trade.
I spent hours reading up about them and looking at the site. What some of these children have faced and survived is inspiring. I decided I liked them so much I’d donate monthly to their cause and also see if I couldn’t raise a few funds for them through book sales as well. So this is why I am doing a big sale for Betwixt. For 10 days the book will be half price ($1.99).
I really hope you can enjoy this book and that it will pull on your heartstrings like it pulled on mine.
