My Review (courtesy of me)

So, my husband and I rented this movie from On Demand – it was some kind of In Theaters Now! Promotion and it was only available for two days. We paid almost 7.00$ to rent it which we never pay but it was the only thing that looked entertaining at the time and as my husband pointed out, we would have paid like 40$ to see it at the movie theater so 7$ wasn’t that bad.

I’ll be honest here and say… I’m kind of mad we paid 7$ because we didn’t really enjoy the movie as much as I hoped.

That being said let me tell you what I did like about the movie…

I liked the cast in this movie, I remember Kirstin Dunst from her cheerleading movie (Bring it on – I think) and Spiderman. I loved her in these movies. I also like Isla Fischer – I’ve seen her in a few things too. I am actually familiar with all the actresses in this movie and I have enjoyed them in all the things they played in. I just didn’t really like them in this movie.

Why? Well, I guess really it wasn’t the acting. Because each actress played their role very well. The main premise of this movie was a group of high school friends get back together to be bridesmaids at one of the girls wedding. The girl getting married was the one they all secretly called “pig-face” behind her back. This character was a fuller figured woman and I liked her best in the movie because she acted the most normal. The other three friends were basically hating their lives since high school, nothing turned out the way they wanted and they worked jobs they didn’t like and a couple of them did drugs.

So, in my opinion, it wasn’t bad acting. The acting was good – the roles were just really crappy – and I didn’t like the characters. I didn’t enjoy watching them do drugs constantly and acting like fools. These are grown women – and in my opinion if you aren’t happy with your life you should look at ways to improve it and not just run in the bathroom to snort coke. Ew.

As we watched the movie we couldn’t really find the plot. I asked my husband when it was over what the point of the movie was and he just looked at me blankly. He didn’t know either. (note: he was offended by all the drug use in this movie so if you are offended by that stay away bc this movie is full of it). The main reason we watched the whole thing (I have a tendency to fast forward or just shut things off I don’t like) is because there was ONE plot thread that kept us watching.

This isn’t a spoiler so don’t worry. The night before the wedding the three bridesmaids go get the bride’s dress and they start goofing off and because it’s a larger size two of them climb into the dress. Well, the dress rips. Like in half. Then they are frantically trying to find a way to fix a dress like 5 hours before a wedding. I just wanted to see if they could fix it and what would happen to the dress if and the bride if they couldn’t. I won’t tell you what happens so it doesn’t ruin the movie for anyone who plans to watch it.

But I will say the things they do to fix the dress – I thought were pretty silly and unbelievable. Like I said, I can’t imagine grown women acting the way they do in this movie. I kind of felt bad for the bride and wished she had better friends in her life.

I mean, I guess you could say there was a theme of self discovery (that’s reaching a bit for me) in this movie. Because the women did look at themselves and their lives and realize how miserable they were and know they need to change. But since the movie was only two hours we never get to see if they make any changes or if their lives get any better.

In all, I am sad to say this movie really wasn’t for me. I did like the cast, there were some funny parts that made me laugh and it wasn’t overly complicated to follow. So if you like movies about crazy women with some comedy and it doesn’t take a lot of concentration to watch you will most likely like this movie!

So there you have it. My opinion.

So have any of you seen this yet? What did you think?

  1. This film isn’t getting the best reviews, but I like the cast so I will rent it on DVD when it comes out.
