Welcome to my weekly meme Tell Me Something Tuesday where I ask you something and you tell me the answer!! It’s as simple as that and I thought it would be a great way for all of us bloggers to get to know one another! So this is how it works: I post a question here on my blog and then i give my answer. I invite all the bloggers to take the question and post it on their blog with their answer and we can hop around and see what everyone says! If you are a blogger don’t forget to leave your link at the bottom of this post! If you aren’t a blogger – that’s okay too!! Leave your answer in the comments section!

 Tell Me Something:

Do you like social media? Why or why not? What is your favorite social media to use (FB, twitter, GR, etc.)?

My answer:

I never really gave much thought to social media before I started writing seriously. I had just written my first novel and was in the middle of the second and I was querying agents like crazy and it occurred to me that starting to build at least some kind of recognition in social media would be beneficial if and when I ever did get published. Up until that point I had completely avoided Facebook and all social media. But I decided it was time to get with the times and stop being a dinosaur… lol.

So I signed up for Facebook. I actually liked it. I then signed up for Goodreads. For a while I stuck to those two sites and then began to branch out a bit to Library thing and Google+ and Twitter. But it is so time consuming to manage and it seemed to take over everything and I kind of felt like the same stuff was being posted on the same site, lol.

I still have all those accounts and profiles set up, but now I mostly just use FB, GR and Twitter. Of course I use this blog as well.

So since signing up and using it all what do I think of it now? Well, overall I like it, I think it’s a good marketing tool for me to use for my books and I like that one post can get out information to a lot of people at once. But like I said before, it’s very time consuming and sometimes it seems that people use it for drama and negativity (I try to steer clear of all that).

I hear about all the author and reviewer wars on GR and also the plagiarism scandals, etc and I have backed away from GR a good bit. I still check my messages and post my books and things but I am not there as much as I used to be. I moderate a group there as well, but I’ve been neglecting that too because I was starting to get some negativity in my own group that I wanted no part of.

My favorite social media would be Facebook. I love talking and interacting with my fans and my friends. I love sharing posts and seeing what other people are up too. Maybe it’s my inner snoop – you know wanting to know what other people are doing instead of worrying about myself. LOL.

But I always try to keep it positive.

I would have to say my least favorite social media is… (*cringes*) Twitter. LOL. I still don’t really get it. I feel spammy when I tweet my book links and I never know what else to tweet about in such short sentences, lol. Mostly I get on there and retweet what others post and try to spread the word for other authors. And I still tweet my book links. (not obsessively).

I wish I had more hours in the day because I would do more but there is only so much a gal can do in one day so I do what I can.

I am interested to see where you all like to spend your time and what social media you enjoy!

Happy Tuesday!

Before you go grab next week’s question:

Were you bullied in school? How do you think bullying has changed over the years – do you think it’s worse now than it was a few years ago?

  1. You and I treat Twitter the same. I used to participate in #yalitchat on Wednesday night; I might get back into it once school begins. 🙂 Facebook is my obsession… er I mean, favorite social media. 😉 Great answer, Cambria!

  2. Yep, I said the same thing about GR! Social media can be wonderful or scary it depends on how you use it!

  3. I just made my blog and I find this question very approprite for my first post!

We have a very similiar thoughts about social media.

  4. Hi Cambria, I didn’t get a chance to do a Tell Me Something Tuesday post (I’ve been on a weekend break) but thought I would swing by anyway. I have a Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads account, but I rarely use them… I sometimes use them to keep up to date with my fav authors/artists etc so I know about future releases but I don’t really know what I’m doing with it. I also don’t have enough time, I’m barely keeping up with general life as it is!

    Happy Tuesday Cambria!

P.S. It was my birthday on Friday (mmm, cake) and I was given a Kindle touch -YAY! My first book (and currently reading is: Masquerade…I’m 60% through it, and OMG, if I was to have a hellhound BF, please let it be Sam! Hahaha! Really enjoying it so far!

  5. I agree with you on so many points. I believe that everything you do should be positive. My husband has a FB page, but has ignored everyone but me and his favorite band pages. He stays away from everything and won’t even read it.
