Welcome to my weekly meme Tell Me Something Tuesday where I ask you something and you tell me the answer!! It’s as simple as that and I thought it would be a great way for all of us bloggers to get to know one another! So this is how it works: I post a question here on my blog and then i give my answer. I invite all the bloggers to take the question and post it on their blog with their answer and we can hop around and see what everyone says! If you are a blogger don’t forget to leave your link at the bottom of this post! If you aren’t a blogger – that’s okay too!! Leave your answer in the comments section!

Tell Me Something:

Do you buy a book based on the cover?

My answer:

Okay… so I apologize for being a bit late on the post today… I have been a little scatter brained since I moved but I am getting back into things so the blog will have more attention now!  So, let’s get onto the question! Book Covers!

I’ll be honest, OF COURSE I do this. I can’t tell you how many times I am wandering through Barnes and Noble (or any book store) and stop to pick up a book because it draws my eye. Book covers are SO important because its the first impression you will have on the reader, its a lasting impression and it sets the tone for the entore story. Now, I will say that usually I read the synopsis or the back cover before making the ultimate decision to buy the book but there have been a few times the cover pulled me in so much that I just bought it and read it not knowing what the book was about because sometimes I like to be surprised!

Here is an example of a book I bought soley based on the cover:

Shiver (Wolves of Mercy Falls)The cover of this book is so beautiful and the icy blue against the white totally pulled me in and made me want to curl up and read this book, so I bought it immediately. (granted I did know it was abou werewolves, LOL) I will say though You Shouldn’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover…. why? I almost cringe to admit this but I wasn’t a huge fan of this series…. I know… everyone else loves it. For some reason I didn’t connect with the story but the covers are still stunning to me. 🙂

Also, I have read books that I am not a huge fan of the cover but the books themselves come recommended to me so I read them and LOVE the inside of the book. It sometimes makes me sad the front of the book doesn’t do the inside justice.

So… All in All… I have to say that the content is the most important thing about a book but since the reader see’s the cover first its also very important. Saying that I don’t buy a book based on the cover sometimes is like saying I don’t walk by a donut and see it slthered in icing and then buy it so I can stuff my face. LOL.

So I can’t wait to see what you all have to say about this topic. So tell me what you think!

Grab Next week’s Question:

At what point do you think a series has gone on too long? How long should a series be?

  1. That is so random. I bought exactly the same book because of the cover… 🙂 I just couldn’t walk out without it. I don’t even know what this book is about!LOL. It’s sat on my over-grown TBR pile. Am I going to be disappointed though? We shall see…

I totally agree, though it shouldn’t be why we read a book, it’s the cover that captures the eye and the imagination first…

Oh, welcome back btw… 😉 Great to have you back on the blog.

  2. See now maybe I am weird but I just think the cover for Shiver is ok but the writing itself is stunning. I just was listening to Linger while driving around running errands and I am blown away but Stiefvater’s writing. It is amazing. I agree I am always drawn to a flashy cover but I don’t buy hardly anything today without reading reviews, I won’t be fooled by pretty covers anymore! I will see you in two weeks for TMST since I am gone next week 🙂

  3. I haven’t read Shiver yet, the cover wasn’t one of those that did it for me. I will have to pick it up now and see what is under the cover. I just bought a huge stack of books this weekend that all have such cool covers – but I did research them all and read the reviews so I wouldn’t be burned!
Happy to have you back Cambria!

  4. 🙂 hi there, thanks for another Tuesday!
