Shelf Candy is one of my most favorite weekly meme’s hosted by Stephanie over at Five Alarm Book Reviews http://www.fivealarmbookreviews.com. For Shelf Candy a blogger chooses a book cover that they love and then they blog about it!

Here is my Shelf Candy pick for this week:

Alona Dare has been living as Lily “Ally” Turner for over a month…and it’s not been easy. Besides being trapped in a body so not as good as her original one, she’s failing miserably at playing the sister and daughter of people she barely knows. Plus, she can’t help but think that Will Killian – the boy she hates to care about – somehow wishes the real Lily were back.

She and Will have been trying to find a solution, looking for a two-for-one miracle that would free Alona and keep Lily alive. Visits to local psychics have proven useless, but then they stumble across Malachi the Magnificent, who seems to be different. His office is full of ghosts, for one thing. But Malachi doesn’t seem to hear or see them, which is odd. Plus, he bolts the moment he sees Will. To make things even weirder, Misty Evans, Alona’s former best friend, is waiting in Malachi’s lobby and claiming that she’s being haunted. By Alona.

Will’s convinced that Malachi has answers, while Alona is all kinds of pissed that someone’s impersonating her. But their efforts to uncover the truth will bring them much unwanted attention and put them directly in the path of a ghost who will stop at nothing for another stab at life. Even if it means destroying Alona.

So for any of you who don’t know Body and Soul is the second book in this series by Stacey Kade. The first book is: The Ghost and the Goth

Body and Soul is newly released: Release date was May 1, 2012

Alona Dare–Senior in high school, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, Homecoming Queen three years in a row, voted most likely to marry a movie star… and newly dead.

I’m the girl you hated in high school. Is it my fault I was born with it all-good looks, silky blond hair, a hot bod, and a keen sense of what everyone else should not be wearing? But my life isn’t perfect, especially since I died. Run over by a bus of band geeks—is there anything more humiliating? As it turns out, yes—watching your boyfriend and friends move on with life, only days after your funeral. And you wouldn’t believe what they’re saying about me now that they think I can’t hear them. To top it off, I’m starting to disappear, flickering in and out of existence. I don’t know where I go when I’m gone, but it’s not good. Where is that freaking white light already?

Will Killian–Senior in high school, outcast, dubbed “Will Kill” by the popular crowd for the unearthly aura around him, voted most likely to rob a bank…and a ghost-talker.

I can see, hear, and touch the dead. Unfortunately, they can also see, hear and touch me. Yeah, because surviving high school isn’t hard enough already. I’ve done my best to hide my “gift.” After all, my dad, who shared my ability, killed himself because of it when I was fifteen. But lately, pretending to be normal has gotten a lot harder. A new ghost—an anonymous, seething cloud of negative energy with the capacity to throw me around—is pursuing me with a vengeance. My mom, who knows nothing about what I can do, is worrying about the increase in odd incidents, my shrink is tossing around terms like “temporary confinement for psychiatric evaluation,” and my principal, who thinks I’m a disruption and a faker, is searching for every way possible to get rid of me. How many weeks until graduation?

I like these covers for a lot of reasons but the first reason is because they are FUN! They are colorful, flirtatious and since I have read Ghost and the Goth I can say that I think they are kind of like Alona. LOL. I love how the girl (alona) appears translucent. It gives the reader an immediate feel for what the book is about but still leaves you wondering why a ghost would be smiling, why she would be wearing a gym uniform and why she is with a guy all in black! Its very intriguing. Both covers are very unique, I think, for a YA cover. They kind of set themselves apart and that great!  I am excited to see Nody and Soul and I like the coloring on this cover as well. It’s very bright and again, seeing Alona and Will together just makes me smile. I cannot wait to read this book when!!!

So what do you think?

  1. These are definitely cute and fun. Without even reading the synopsis, you know these two are opposites so the covers have you wondering, why is she a ghost and what are they doing together? Really fun picks!

  2. Oh, I love these covers, too!! I love the bright colors, especially that blue sky on “The Ghost and The Goth:! (You know I have a thing for blue, lol.) Like you, I also like that the girl is translucent. It adds to the look of these covers.

I also love the fonts used for the titles! They’re absolutely GORGEOUS.

I’ve been meaning to buy “The Ghost and The Goth”, because I think the plot is terrific! I love romantically-based ghost stories! Now that the new book is out, I will definitely get both!!

    Thanks for featuring these!!

  3. Great covers! I see them in the stores and they are really sweet looking. I agree, they def. set themselves apart from other covers! Great pick. I think I’ll have to put these on my TBR list!
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. I adore the cover for The Ghost and the Goth. The retro clothes on the ghost make it extra awesome. They are eye catching and are the kind of cover that I would be drawn to pick up on a whim. Thanks for sharing, Cambria.

  5. I’ve always liked these covers! This is the type of book that I would buy just based on the cover!
