Shelf Candy is one of my most favorite weekly meme’s hosted by Stephanie over at Five Alarm Book Reviews http://www.fivealarmbookreviews.com. For Shelf Candy a blogger chooses a book cover that they love and then they blog about it!

Here is my Shelf Candy pick for this week:

One Black Rose by Maddy Edwards

I just saw this cover as I was scrolling through Amazon like I sometimes do. It caught my eye because the color is really beautful and striking. Usually I see covers that are black and white with a pop of red… but this is gorgeous. I love the almost whitewashed feel the ocean has… and it really is just beachy but yet kind of dark. I like how the black acts like a frame and the font how it is all to the side. It intrigues me.

After I looked at the cover I read the synopsis… I admit at first I thought Yea yea, sounds typical YA (nothing wrong with that bc I love YA) but then it said it was about fairies…. interesting… yes, no? I was honestly expecting Vamps so this was a suprise.

Here is the synopsis for you to read:

Sixteen-year-old Autumn goes to stay with her friend Carley in Castleton, Maine, for the summer. All she’s expecting is a normal couple of months hanging out at the beach with friends. Nothing out of the ordinary was supposed to happen.

But as soon as she arrives she meets Holt Roth. Holt is unlike anyone she’s ever met before – and her reaction to him is even more unexpected.

Then she meets his friend, Samuel Cheshire. If her reaction to Holt was strong, her reaction to Samuel is shocking. The only problem is that he seems to hate her for no reason at all.

Not being able to choose between two guys is only the beginning of Autumn’s problems, because both Samuel and Holt are Fairies, and Autumn is caught between her own desires and the Fairy Courts, who might cause her immeasurable pain if she makes the wrong choice.

The second book in the series is also out:

Synopsis:

As summer trickles into fall, Autumn is forced to confront the choices that she and Holt have made – or been forced to make. Now they must stand together to face the forces that are trying to tear them apart. Against family opposition, imprisonment, and physical danger, their bond will be tested.

Will Samuel stand next to her through everything?

Will she and Holt come through unscathed, or will they be ripped apart forever? And how will the opposition of Mrs. Cheshire and Logan Roth play out?

Autumn, Holt, and Samuel will face their biggest test yet. And Autumn will finally have her Rose.

I don’t like this cover as much as the first but it is beautiful as Autumn/Fall is my absolute favorite season.

So have you heard of this series? What do you think?

  1. I love the cover for One Black Rose. I have a rose garden and am striving to develop my own black rose, so this is especially appealing to me. This is the first time that I have seen the covers. Thank you for sharing them.

  2. I definitely like the first cover the most. I like that it has a beautiful ocean shot in the background but that the black frame and flower imply something a little darker and eerier than you might expect. And I love a good fairy story! 🙂 Great choice!

  3. These are both GORGEOUS covers!! Of course, my very favorite is the first one, since it’s got blue in it…lol. Besides, I LOVE the ocean!! The black rose and black frame are also beautiful.

I’m so disappointed to see that these are Kindle editions, though. I went to Amazon to find out whether they’re available in paperback or hardcover editions, and they’re not… I do not read ebooks. I detest reading books on a machine. I can handle reading blog posts, which are, of course, on a machine. But an entire book? No way!

I sure hope this series will be available in printed format at some point in the future, because I love the plots as much as I do the covers!!

Thanks for featuring these beautiful covers!! : )

  4. I hate that lots of YA books go like this
    1. Girl moves to new school or goes on vacation
    2. Every guy is obsessed with her and wants her
    3. She is in a love triangle

now that my small rant is over…I like the frame around this cover. And I agree that the color is really nice. My Shelf Candy
