Five Alarm Book Reviews

Chapters 1-8

5 discussion questions:

1. If you were disfigured like Heven (by some sort of accident) do you think you would have reacted the same way as her? (loss of self confidence, hiding yourself, etc)

Let’s see….if I had been disfigured as a teenager this would have been me:
Bag Ladies
Wait… why is there more than one girl in the picture, you ask?? Because I would make people put bags over their head with me of course!!! LOL. Okay, I wouldn’t.  Maybe…

I guess it’s really hard to say what I would do unless I was in that actual position but I think I probably would be like her. I probably would try to hide my face and hide from the whispers from my used-to-be friends at school.     I mean there have been times when I have gotten a bad haircut and worn hats and not wanted to go out. Vain?

Probably but it’s still the truth. Lol. When I was 16-17 years old I was insecure as it was so being disfigured? I probably would have thought my life was over. To be honest I would probably cry a lot and feel sorry for myself at first before pulling myself up and dusting myself off.  But I do like to think that the older I got the easier it would be. 🙂

2. Do you think that Kimber’s plan for revenge against Cole (for kissing another girl) is a good idea?

Uh, no. Lmao!! Revenge usually isn’t the best answer but it sure is fun!!! LOL. Unless it backfires… but I got to say that guys usually respond to that sort of thing. You know, seeing “their” girl interested in someone else. It gets the chest beating going. LOL.

I know you want to know if I ever have gotten revenge on someone for some heinous act… like a cheating boyfriend or a BFF gone bad…. Maybe…I can’t give away all my bad girl secrets…. But I have been known to take a box full of items that were not mine to Goodwill…

And now that I am so much older and wiser surprisingly my “revenge” has seemed to get more childish – yet way more fun. When my husband does something to make me mad I pack him the “bad spoon” or “bad fork” in his lunch. LOL. What is this you ask? Oh you know we have a set of silverware that all match except for one odd fork and spoon and it drives my hubby crazy. He calls them the bad spoon and fork. SO when he makes me mad he gets the bad utensils…. HA HA HA!! Take that!

 3. In the beginning chapters, Heven is very drawn to Sam but won’t admit it due to her own insecurities. Kimber begins to “date” Sam… do you think that Heven should have spoken up? Do think Kimber should have seen Heven’s real feelings?

I think that if Kimber was really paying attention she would have noticed Heven’s reaction to Sam. Do I think Heven should have spoken up? I can see how it would be hard for her but yeah, she probably should have just told Kimber that she was into Sam. But really, Kimber is pretty determined and I am not sure that Heven speaking up would have changed her plans.

LA LA LA LA LA LA I can’t hear you…..

 4. Masquerade is broken in four separate POV’s: Heven, Sam, The Hate and The Hope. Do you think having multiple POV’s adds depth to the story? Why or why not?

I think that the multiple POV’s offer a well rounded view of the story. This way we get the details from the main players, through their eyes, instead of only getting the details from one person. I think this gives the reader a better handle on what’s going on.  🙂

 5. A great source of strength for Heven is her grandmother. Who do you think yours is/would be?

I actually think a great source of strength for me is also my grandmother. I have been close with her my whole life.  I still remember playing board games and practicing math with her at the dining room table.  😉 And now that I am married I would say my husband as well. He is my BFF and I can tell him anything – which I usually do bc he can tell when something is wrong and talking it over with him makes things seem more manageable.

I won’t post a pic of my grandmother because if word got out I would be in Tr-ouble…… lol. But here is a pic of my hubby (Shawn):

Can’t wait to read all of your answers!! Happy Thursday!

  1. Think my answers are quite similar to yours. Going to end up reading this book multiple times because I can’t wait to read the rest of the story! Loving it so far!

  2. Loved your answers, the making friends wear bags over their heads to the bad spoon and fork that is too funny. I am suprised Shawn brings them home if you pack them in his lunch. It is definitely fun to get your perspective.

  3. Awww! Your hubbie’s a cutie-pants! 🙂 lol Gotta love a man in uniform right?? I loved your answers! I would have been a bag-over-the-head-babe too…:)

  4. I seriously love your answer to number 2. It SO sounds like something I would do. I think we all have our things. Like, for instance, it really bugs hubs when I don’t brush my teeth before bed. So, I used to purposefully not do it when he’d piss me off. Kinda gross, but I felt better. LOL! Plus, like I said….EEEEE-VIL!

    1. Author

Bah ha ha ha!!!!! You are hilarious!!! Power to the EEEEEE-VIL gals!!!! Just keepin it real. lol

So glad you could post today Maghon! Loved your answers!

  5. First of all, thank you so much for writing this book and hosting this read-along — it’s so much fun so far, Cambria! <3 Secondly, I love your answers to these questions! I definitely agree that it's hard to decide what to do if you're not actually in the actual situation, but your paper bag thing made me laugh LOL! And this line sums revenge up perfectly: "Revenge usually isn’t the best answer but it sure is fun!" It IS fun to read/watch about, and even do, I guess! 😉 After all, so many funny plots come from “getting revenge” stories!

I hope you have a fantastic day, Cambria! <3

Awww!!! Thank you for reading my book! 😉 I am so thrilled to hear that you liked it. It makes me smile. 🙂
I totally agree Revenge is the plot for many books and shows so clearly people like to watch it. Course I wouldn’t want to be a victim. LOL!

  6. Bad fork & bad spoon. Lol. My husband had a student with a good hand and a bad hand. As long as he had a glove on the bad hand, he was usually good.

Guys do react to the chest beating of the hottie being paid attention too, but you have to be careful how far you push. You don’t want to give a guy a reason to cheat. They get a taste for it…dum, dum, dum.

    1. Author

Wow… a good and bad hand….. lol. Not sure what to say about that other than that would fit into a book! lol.

You’re right about pushing men too far – i think pushing people in general too far. 🙂

  7. Bahaha. I love the bags over the heads. I rarely had acne as a teen. I would get one zit and not want to go to school. I would like to say that I would be a better person, but NOT.
Your husband looks nice in his uniform. Thanks for your service, Shawn.
I am having a great time reading everyone’s answers. Great questions, Cambria.

    1. Author

Oh Steph! I had the worst acne. I still use proactiv til this day!!!! And thanks for your thanks to my husband. 😉
It has ben fun reading all the answers! Thanks for hosting!

  8. I was really looking forward to see your answers! They are as hilarious as I expected them to be, especially the two first ones. By the way, that spoon and fork are gorgeous!

    1. Author

Thanks Veronica!! The fork and spoon are gorgeous but alas they aren’t my bad spoon and fork. LOL. I should have taken a pic of them but I didn’t think about it. 🙂

  9. I have to wonder though.. are they used-to-be friends because they truly shun her, or is her insecurities pushing them away? Because they seemed to be happy to have her back on the team. I haven’t read beyond chapter 8 though. But, I think the way others see you, is partly a reflection of how you see yourself.

    1. Author

Very insightful and I totally agree Christy!! 😉

  10. I loved all your answers! It really was fantastic to read your thought’s as the author!

Hehe and I love your think about “bad cutlery” – we have plenty of that except it doesn’t annoy me partner! Will have to think of another way 🙂

    1. Author

Well let me know what you come up with maybe I will use that idea too! bah ha ha.

  11. LOL! So funny answers! Poor BFF’s whose things went into the Goodwill. :p

You are really some trouble, huh! I will keep out of your bad books. 😉

  12. Hi, Cambria!!

Oh, your answers are SO funny!! And that pic of the girls with the bags over their heads…lol. Maybe this will be my next Halloween costume! The spoon and fork thing is funny, too. It’s perfect for people who HAVE to have everything match up. (I know, I’m one of them….)

Your characters are VERY realistic, by the way. I can totally relate to Heven’s pain, even though I’ve never had such a terrible thing happen to me. But I’ve had my own insecurities. And Kimber? Initially, I liked her, but you’ve made me start to dislike her, first with her manipulative ploy, and then with the incident that comes later, at her own birthday party. Now that’s the mark of a skilled author, when characters really start to come alive for the readers!!

I love the POVs, too! I agree with Steph from FABR, who says that this is one of the parts she likes best about MASQUERADE. Kudos for this!!!

How sweet that you posted a pic of your hubby!! He looks like a really nice guy! It’s great to have your husband be your best friend!

Thanks for your great answers!! : )
