The discussion questions and my answers for this week:

1. In Chapter 6, Atticus goes hunting with Oberon and Flidais. What was supposed to be a fun hunting trip turned rather disastrous. Were you expecting something like this to happen or did it catch you by surprise? Have you ever had something that should have been fun turn disastrous or nearly disastrous?

Hmmmm, well I know I have only been reading this book for a short while, but I wasn’t surprised. I got the number on these God types….they are trouble with a capital T. And it’s not really that Flidais wanted to cause trouble – she wanted to hunt – she wanted to do what she wanted to do and the “humans” got in the way. Lol. She just lives by a different set of rules but really I guess she would considering how old she is.

Have I ever had anything fun turn out disastrous? Who hasn’t? LOL. Let’s see… there was the time I was having a huge BBQ with a water slide and everything for my daughter’s b-day and I set a large jug of iced tea in the fridge and a few minutes later I looked down and iced tea was leaking out of the bottom of the door…yeah, the entire jug of tea leaked all over, filled the shelves… the ketchup was floating…

I cried. LOL.

Then there was the time I dyed my hair a nice red shade…. Only it turned purple and my daughter refused to be seen at school with me and I had to wear a hat until I got it fixed. But actually that looked better than the time I dyed it blond and it turned green…

 2. We are only briefly introduced to the witches (or, a witch) in chapter 7. What are your first impressions? How much would you trust the witches? Why?

Well, first I must say I like her fashion sense and she sounds pretty. But just like Atticus said – she should shed her skin and show the real her. Bah ha ha. And can I just say I like a man who isn’t afraid to smack her down. LOL. I wouldn’t trust the witches as far as I can throw them but they seem like if they give their word they are honor bound to keep their word… they would just be real sneaky about it and find a loop hole. I do think they will add quite a bit of drama to the book which is always a plus. 😉

3. Oberon says, “With dogs you just go up and smell their asses and you know where you stand. It’s so much easier. Why can’t humans do that?” Do you ever wish there was an easier way to find out where you stand with someone (besides Oberon’s suggestion, of course)? In what cases would it be easier or better to hide your true feelings?

Well, yeah it would be easier to just smell someone’s butt and know exactly where you stand but if I had to do that I wouldn’t do it….nasty. Yes, I wish there was an easy way to know so as I grow older…(*drags out wrinkle cream*) if I am wondering I just ask. Usually I have a stomach ache about it for oh, three or ten days but then I just ask. Then when I get an answer I sometimes wonder if it’s the truth…. Come to think of it smelling butts sounds pretty simple…

I think hiding your true feelings is okay if saying what they are will hurt someone and not really change anything. Like telling a friend her haircut makes her look like a granny with a hairnet then what’s the point in that? She can’t change it (unless she wears a wig) so why hurt her feelings? But I also think speaking up for yourself in certain situations is important and that if you don’t it will cause hurt feelings later.

4. Chapter 9 makes Atticus’ life much more difficult: the witches are in some way working with Aeghus Og, Bres comes after Atticus, and more trouble appears at the end of the chapter. Have you made sense of what has happened thus far? Any predictions for what might happen?

I am following the story with ease. I try not to make predictions as I read because I like to be surprised by the story and let it unfold before me. I was surprised at the old lady’s reaction, Atticus’ neighbor. She seemed very undisturbed that he killed someone in her yard… lol. I thought that was a little far-fetched but I admit I was amused by it. Lol.

 5. Atticus has had plenty of time to cultivate attitudes and ethics that would allow him to live a very long time. What do you think it is about Atticus that has allowed him to live for as long as he has?

I think it’s his adaptability. My husband is forever walking around saying “If you want to live to be 100 then you have to be a sentenial…” (yeah, he’s a weirdo, lol) and I am forever saying “What the heck are you talking about” He says “You have to be willing to adapt. Don’t be so set in your ways.” Well I am set in my ways but Atticus has shown that he can adapt. He can live back in the day but he can live now in the computer generation and blend in with the college kids.  I think it also helps that he is laid back and takes things as they come. And you know, I think because he has lived so long he has gained a lot of wisdom. There is nothing wrong with being wise. 😉

So that’s it for this week! I am looking forward to diving into the book further and will see you all back here next week!!!

Happy Thursday!

  1. I would have balled. You know when they say don’t cry over spilled milk. I ALWAYS cry about it. I totally feel your pain with the iced tea. I would have been upset at no longer having the beverage and that I had to now clean the fridge. I once dyed my hair blonde. It turned orange. I wore orange shirts for awhile. LOL!

I suck at adapting. Change and me aren’t friends. This is probably why I won’t live to be 100. It’s no matter though, I’m not into longevity and all that. Just want to see my kids grow up. 😀

    1. LOL. I always cry over that stuff too. Only because its so much of a pain to clean up and usually a mess like that is my own fault! LOL.

Orange eh? Was it at least halloween time? LOL!!

Yes, I don’t adapt well at all either, the slightest change in my routine and I am a wreck. Doubt I’ll live to 100 either.

  2. Oh, hair! My mom is a hair stylist, so I’m pretty safe on that front.

Adapting is important. But…tough. Takes a lot to learn how to be adaptable.

    1. Well, Amanda…. I have a degree in cosmetology too…. bah ha ha ha. But in my defense the green was was from a walmart box color and those things aren’t always dependable. LOL. now when I want blond i get it done professionally bc their products are better. lol.

  3. I thought you knew a thing or two about hair, how on earth did you manage to get purple and green hair?
Oh come floating red ice tea isn’t so bad..my brother and I managed to drop a while brand new big size bottle of tabasco sauce all over the kitchen floor. Try cleaning that up, stinging eyes. Pass me the wrinkle cream will ya. Maj a hundred years? Sean is optimistic isn’t he!

      1. Oh yes, hot sauce… that happened to us once too. I opened the back of my pathfinder full of groceries and it rolled out and busted all over the garage floor. That stuff is potent! Luckily for me, my husband wouldn’t let me get close to it to clean it up (he was afraid I would cut myself, lol) so he cleaned it up but can you believe that the concrete was actually bleached white from where it spilled. After that I kind of always wondered what it does to your insides if it bleached concrete like that….. lol

  4. Well, you have certainly had some interesting hair colors!

And I’m on your team! What’s so wrong with being set in your ways? Though I do agree that others should adapt to my ways. LOL

    1. Ahhhh yes….. we totally agree there. People should just bow to my ways. Life would be SO much easier. LOL.

Yes, i’ve had some hairstyles le m tell you…… its been interesting. lol.

  5. Oh I feel your pain on the hair colors. When I was in high school, I was frosting my hair, but got distracted on the phone. Well, it ended up looking blueish. Worst part, I had my drivers license picture like that. lol.. ugh. I guess it would be in fashion these days, but not 15 years ago.

I used to adapt to different situations very well, but as I get older, I just don’t WANT to

    1. LOL. I think all us ladies have had some sort of hair disaster. when I was a senior in high school I tried to dye it blond for the first time ever (it was brown) and it turned a brassy orange color…. my mom had to cancel my senior picture appointment until i got it fixed. LOL.

But yes, as I grow older I get less and less flexible…. who knows how i’ll be by the time I am 70. lol

  6. Oh dear scary hair experiences. I agree these God types are trouble with a capital T. Especially it seems the ones of the female variety! It seems nobody is trusting these witches, cute dress sense or not. It is a pretty easy story to follow. Read a review of it on goodreads and the person complained that it was confusing??? Seriously??? As you can tell I thought this person was slightly mad or perhaps stupid *shrug of shoulder, with perplexed look on face* I think if were all honest we all have a part of us that’s set in our ways. Ooh, your book sounds interesting by the way, although I’m thirty *cough* something I still feel I am a teenager and like books and programmes that appeal to the teenage side of me (that doesn’t sound weird does it?) 🙂

    1. Kate – it doesn’t sound were at all!!! I am 30 and I wrote it. LOL. I wrote it becase thats the stuff I like to read too. I have always been into YA reads more so than the adult stuff. I say its because I am young and adventurous at heart. You can say that too. LOL.

Yeah,I can’t imagine anyone calling this book confusing unless of course you weren’t really paying attention as you read but then what would be the point of reading at all? But you know everyone has an opinion….. not all of them good. lol.

  7. Somebody once told me that if you dye your hair blond and it takes on a green tinge you should put ketchup on it – now, don’t take my word on that because I’ve never needed to try this!! But, I’m just saying.
Aw, crying at your daughter’s party – I felt for you there – it could have been so much worse though – children’s parties are a dodgy thing.
    Lynn 😀

    1. Lynn- I haven’t heard the ketchup thing but that would be the right theory. I actually have a degree in cosmetology (Bah ha ha ha) and they always said that if a blond goes into the pool in the summer and ends up with green tinted hair the first thing to try is a shampoo made for redheads. Because the green and the Red are opposite on the color spectrum for hair it balances out the colors and leaves it more blond instead of green.
I haven’t ever tried it but it seems logical. It also seems easier than dousing ones head in ketchup!!! LOL

  8. You’re so right–Gods are trouble with a capital T.
Oh, that party foul would have made me cry!

I think you have Atticus’s number. He’s had to be so adaptable, something that most of us aren’t, especially as we age.

    1. Yes, Mary I did cry. LOL. So much so that my husband started cleaning it while I stood there and sobbed. LOL.
The Gids are definitely trouble and I can’t wait to see what else they do!

  9. I seriously think that if my mom had purple hair then I’d be showing her off and not making her hide! But then again, I would also be jelly her hair was purple and mine wasn’t… LOL

Oh and I so want to meet that widow! She is just too cool.

    1. Right!? That’s what I said. i actually kind of liked the purple because it wasn’t all over it looked hi-lighted. But she was traumatized so I changed it so she would be seen in public with me. LOL. Ah, the things we do for our children.

  10. I’ve never dyed my hair, I’m too chicken, but purple sounds kinda cool 😉

I love Atticus’s adaptability, that he can pass for 21 in the 21st century in manner as well as looks says a lot about him. I can’t keep up with the kids of today and it wasn’t that long ago I was one of them!

    1. LOL. you have a point there. It is hard to keep up so what Atticus has managed is something really great actually. That’s a great point….

Now can someone tell me how to work my cellphone? lol

    1. Yes, totally agree with your formula here. And yes, the widow is something else isn’t she? LOL.

  11. Hair color going wrong, have happened to me too many times. I know the pain, I have a nice collection of hats now because of this incident happening way too many times lol.

    1. Bah ha ha ha!! Hats are nice too! I wear those too but mainly because I am too lazy to blow out my hair everyday. lol.
I haven’t had a hair incident in a while bc I just started going elsewhere to get it done and that helps. lol.

  12. This looks like so much fun. I passed on this since I am in panels all week for the bloggers conference, but I would like to give it a read. It wont be nearly as fun by myself.

  13. Great post hon. Thank you so much for sharing. Loved your stories, the dye job one nearly killed me. So sorry hon, I know it must have been awful. Still, I couldn’t help but laugh. I agree about how it can be okay to hide your true feelings if it helps from hurting someone, but it only depends on the situation, of course. I agree about the old lady’s reaction. Didn’t see that coming, but it made me laugh. I don’t think it was too far-fetched, after we hear why she acted that way, it made sense. Still made sense in a strange way LOL! You said what I said, he adapts to situations so well. Love your husband’s quote by the way, it is weird, but I like it. Awesome post again, thank you so much for this and for the comment 🙂

  14. “You have to be willing to adapt. Don’t be so set in your ways.”

Your husband is right but what the heck kind of sentinel is he talking about? LOL I watched BSG and those weren’t all that adaptable 🙂

I love that you and your hubby have those conversations though—it totally cracks me up!
