Welcome to Shelf Candy Saturday a wonderful Meme hosted by Stephanie over at Five Alarm Book Reviews http://www.fivealarmbookreviews.com. This weekly Meme is designed to help us all feast our eyes on the beautiful countless book covers that catch our attention. It is during this time that we can hi-light the cover designers or any other quality about a cover that we love.

My shelf candy pick for today is the Nightshade Series by Angela Cremer

Hardback Cover                                             Paperback Cover                                       Another version

                                                                                                              Wolfsbane (Nightshade #2)

Paperback Version                                 Another Version (UK I think)               Hardback Version (I think)

                                                                                                       Bloodrose (Nightshade #3)

Original Cover                                     Another version (possibly the UK)                          Czech Version

I really love this series and I think the covers are striking. My particular favorite is the original Hardback cover for Nightshade. The colors – the icy purples and the shimmery model is really appealing to me. I am not a big fan of the paperback covers but I will say that the model looks a lot more like how I picture Calla in the book. I think that the original cover for Bloodrose is beautiful as well. I love the red and the fur around the model’s face. The wolf off to the side is perfect for showing Calla’s other side – or perhaps her true self.

I also think that finding the Czech version of Bloodrose was really interesting. Isn’t is something how different countries clearly have different styles and likes? The cover is beautiful for sure but maybe not something we would find on US shelves. I think its great to see the versatlity of a book cover yet with the same story inside the cover. It does show that we are different (as I said before) from other countries but also a lot alike. 😉

This series was released by The Penguin Group. I could not find the cover artists info (very frustrating) but I did find this website:

http://www.nightshadebook.com  On this site you can find book info but also some other goodies like the books trailers but also videos titled Shadow Days with Shay Doran.  Here is a sample of the videos.

Shadow Days with Shay Doran #1:

I’ll keep it real and say this isn’t at ALL how I pictured Shay in the books. LOL.

Also on this site you can read the first 7 chapters of Nightshade (a great sampler to see if you might invest time on this series) and you can also find information about a Nightshade Novella titled Treachery.

Overall, these covers have always enticed me to pick them up and explore the contents inside (which I have!) and I think that alone makes them Shelf Candy worthy. 😉

Happy Saturday!

  1. All of these covers are terrific and each version is equally as wonderful. I am so glad you have chosen these. They are so much fun to look at. The video is super fun. I would love to stay in a place like that. I am pretty sure that it would bring out the creativity in anyone.
    I can’t believe I haven’t gotten to these yet.

  3. I love these covers! Thanks for sharing so many different versions of them. I’ve had this series in my tbr pile for awhile, so I need to get on it 🙂

  4. Hi Cambria!
These are some gorgeous covers. I like the one for Nightshade the best. Great choices. I see you met Sam!

  5. These are FABULOUS choices!! I love the covers of this series myself!! (My first Shelf Candy Saturday post featured the cover of BLOODROSE.) The designers and cover artists of this series really did a great job! As Stephanie commented on my first post, Penguin has the best designers. I do wish the publisher had kept the original cover for WOLFSBANE, though…the one on which the girl turns to look at the viewer, with all that lush green around her, and the decorative plants around the borders… Oh, well… I do like the new one in which Calla is pictured squatting on her haunches, like a wolf would, while the ghostly moon rises behind her….

    Have a greaT weekend!!

  7. Hi, Cambria! Oh, I love these covers myself!! Although I do wish the cover of WOLFSBANE hadn’t been changed. However, the new one, with Calla sitting on her haunches, while the moon rises behind her, is breathtaking!

    Thanks for sharing!! : )
