Have you ever had Bubble Tea before? Do you like it? Have you ever heard of it?

 What is that stuff anyway?

Bubble is quite simply the mixture of tea and milk (or cream). It is offten sweetened with sugar, honey or a variety of flavors. Sam’s favorite is Chocolate. Heven’s is strawberry. It can be served hot or cold. Blended or over ice. Pretty much however you want it! So if it’s just tea and milk why is it called Bubble tea? Bubble tea has tapioca pearls at the bottom of the cup that really, have no taste, but are chewy like a gummy bear! When people drink it they use an extra wide straw so that the pearls (or balls as I call them, he he he) can travel up the straw and make it into your mouth. The tapioca pearls come in a variety of colors. Here is what Bubble Tea traditionally looks like:

Here is what the pearls look like while cooking: (these happen to be the same that I put in my tea!)

I recently had the pleasure of making and trying this sweet concoction and I video taped it to share it with all of you!  So watch my video and then tell me in the comment section if you’ve ever had Bubble Tea, If you’ve ever made it and if you like it!

p.s. you can get a recipe for Bubble tea on this site under the Fun Stuff page tab at the top!

  1. You are hilarious! I was wondering where to get the tapioca pearls.. I don’t know where an oriental market is around here (I live in a small town here too) but at least you found them somewhere. A friend of mine online had one when she was out of town and said it was so good and I have been wanting to try it since. A local restaurant over here claims they have bubble tea but when we got it, it was entirely different. It was with gelatin squares (maybe it WAS the tapioca balls cuz it looked like the consistency of what you showed but much much smaller. Anyways, the bubble tea i tried was really good.. but I would like to try the kind like you had… & in a chocolate flavor like Sam. =)

Hi Crystal! Thanks for stopping by! Keep an eye out for a bubble tea giveaway on the tour! You could win what you need to make it just like I did.
It was quite an experience! I would love to try it in chocolate and cold like I imagine it. Someday i will….
Tapioca balls come in all different sizes, some are really small – most are I think. its the same thing as in tapioca pudding. 🙂 But i know nothing about gelatin squares. LOL. hey, everyone has their own version. 🙂

  3. Freaking LOVE this video!
    You are such a nut!
    Or is it a ball??…lol

  4. This is freaking hilarious. There are a lot of oriental markets around here and I frequent them for my spicy goods. I have used tapioca like this to make pudding. I will have to give this a try. I have to say that your facial expression hasn’t exactly sold this product, better keep the day job and keep writing books.

HA HA HA! It was interesting experience but I have to say the tea isn’t bad… the balls are a little weird though! LOL

  5. Ha lol the balls reminded me of Azlynn’s Orbeez things…. and you say y’all more than I do I think. Hehe. Yes, I would prefer sugar on my balls though.

  6. Love the Southern accent but your face didn’t quite convince me that it was epic!

  7. That was so much fun. If I was the cameraman I’d be laughing through out the whole video.
I had no idea what tapioca pearls where until now…I’m sure there are impossible to find in Greece.
Loved seeing Cambria on a video, you are born for the tv cooking shows 😛

Thanks all!! The cameraman didn’t laugh because he is used to me and my humor – LOL. He hears it all the time – poor guy. He he he he he he.

The balls (Uh- I mean pearls) don’t taste like anything. They have no flavor which I found odd. LOL. But they were chewy like gum. lol!!!

  9. Such a great, super cute video, and I LOVE tea, so I will try this with my kids. I’d have to go with the chocolate flavor. The only way I get any fruit…is fruit flavored gum. 🙂

  10. LOL…love it! I guess I don’t understand why you even put the balls (pearls) in there if they don’t even have flavor! I’ll have to try it someday. 🙂

Nora- LOL!!! Fruit flavored gum eh? My kids say that fruit snacks are healthy because they have “fruit” LOL!!

Cassie – I feel the same way. What really is the point? Other than for looks. lol.
